A Lonely Island on a Knife’s Edge

Forensic professor Lu Chenzhou wakes up after an explosion at the autopsy table to find himself transformed into Lu Shao, a “traitor” working for Wang Jingwei's 76th Bureau.

**A bloodstained scalpel in his left hand**: His adoptive father, Lu Tianxiong, presses a gun to his temple. “Identify this Communist corpse within three hours, or you'll be the next specimen.”

**A half-melted Swiss candy in his right hand**: Its sweetness triggers a flashback. An insulin needle pierces his neck, while behind his loving father's smile lurks a plot to kill his son.

The same kind of insulin puncture is found on the corpse's left chest, and a brass phonograph needle in his pocket is engraved with a bizarre musical score.

The radio suddenly crackles: “Intercepted transmission... The substitute ‘Cicada’ for ‘Lone Goose’ has awakened!”

To survive, Lu Chenzhou wields modern forensic science like a blade:

► He uses ultraviolet light to reveal a fluorescent national emblem on the ribs, then harnesses a cyanide blast to escape the Green Gang's encirclement.

► He uses body heat to unlock a starfire pattern on a dancer's qipao, while the gears of a pocket watch conceal a secret passage to artifacts in the Forbidden City.

► He performs an autopsy on a Japanese colonel in public to expose biological warfare, while a prism's beam shatters the false face of the Paramount Ballroom.

And as the sugar revives his memories, a deadly truth emerges:

Every bite of something sweet brings back his memories, but also devours his modern-day soul.

When he tears open the bloodstained lining of Bai Manqing's qipao, a photograph falls out. In it, his modern-day girlfriend stands smiling beside Lu Tianxiong.

On an isolated island where every step is a tightrope, sweetness is both key and poison.

When the cicada sings, who is using his blade to pass judgment on this blood-soaked Shanghai?
