(Mild Horror + Survival + Rule-Based Infinite Flow)
A death warrant arrives without warning: an “invitation to check in” that cannot be torn up or refused.
Zhang Tao, an office worker;
Li Mo, a taciturn former soldier;
Wang Ya, a graduate student in folklore;
Chen Li, gifted with spiritual sensitivity;
Zhao Xuemei, a resilient mother fighting to survive with her child;
and Wu Feng, a man with a dark mind.
When they step into that eerie building, their lives plunge into an abyss.
This is no hotel. It is an execution ground called the “Haunted Building.”
Across countless hellish floors and spaces, the rules hang over their heads like executioner's blades. One stray thought, one misstep, and death comes in an instant. Time freezes or flows backward; space folds and overlaps; the laws of physics become a joke. The faceless woman in the stairwell, the hanging shadow that appears in the mirror at midnight, “room service” that feeds on despair and screams...
The Haunted Building itself is a living thing that devours lives.
Sun Qian, who knows the real world well, holds the key to survival, but harbors a secret no one knows. Fear either elevates or corrupts human nature: caution, loyalty, knowledge, screams, maternal love, and greed are all magnified without limit.
They are forced to take part in “check-in events.” The price of escape is measured in lives lost and fragments of the soul. The “objects of obsession” they luck into finding are lifelines, but also new curses.
Why does the Haunted Building exist? Who is pulling the strings behind the scenes? What is the price of escape? When the survivors step over their companions' corpses and reach the deepest part of the Haunted Building, they find more than horror: they find cruel answers about their own existence and the truth of the world.
They struggle in this cage where reality and nightmares intertwine, seeking only the faintest chance to survive and a glimmer of humanity amid despair.
Well written, I love reading it
Objectively speaking, the beginning of this book is not very exciting, but fortunately I have read a few chapters and the story is still exciting.
