Where Power Reigns, Corpse Flowers Bloom

At the court of the Great Yan Dynasty, Regent King Yun Linxiao is a legend. Though he holds power over the entire court, he has no desire for the throne. He keeps his peerless martial arts hidden and devotes all his attention to the young emperor, earning him the undisputed reputation of being the court’s “steadfast pillar.” To investigate a long-buried case involving the imperial family, he conceals his true identity and walks among the common people as an ordinary guard.

An unexpected murder brings him face to face with Hua Jianyuu, an eccentric female coroner. While everyone else is fooled by the victim’s visible wounds, she cuts open the body and uses an unheard-of “forensic technique” to reveal that the fatal injury lies deep within the bones. It is the professional instinct of Hua Jianyuu, a modern-day forensic doctor.

One is a powerful regent who keeps his true nature hidden; the other is a forensic doctor who has transmigrated to ancient times with modern medical knowledge. Brought together by a case, they are forced to work as a team. From a bizarre case of a bride bursting into flames to a string of skinning murders, Hua Jianyuu uses her scalpel to cut through layers of mystery and read the secrets of death in the bones. Yun Linxiao, meanwhile, uses his iron-fisted methods to keep villains in check and gives her room to practice her “heretical art.”

The dangers of the autopsy table and the deadly intrigue lurking in the court draw their hearts closer with every brush with death. He is captivated by her calm courage and ingenious ideas; she is drawn to the tenderness beneath his seemingly cold protection. When Hua Jianyuu unexpectedly discovers a chance to return to the modern era, she looks at the regent who has shed his armor for her, and at the vast realm they have defended side by side, then resolutely leaves the road home behind.

It turns out that what crosses through time is not only the soul, but also a deep love willing to give up the way home.
