"Urban Monster Hunter: Recruited by Bureau 749 at the Beginning" tells the story of the bizarre experience of Ling Ye, an ordinary college graduate.
In a worldview where modern cities and hidden "inner worlds" coexist, demons and ghosts have coexisted with humans since ancient times, but have been suppressed or hidden due to technological development, and Bureau 749, the official supernatural agency, is responsible for maintaining balance.
Ling Ye was living an ordinary life, but when he encountered a low-level wraith in a rental house, he accidentally activated the merit-based demon-slaying system. This system can obtain merit points by killing, purifying or sealing demons and monsters, which can be exchanged for exercises, magic weapons, etc. Relying on the system, he used the primary evil-breaking talisman to repel the resentful spirits, but was noticed by the mysterious forces.
Thereafter, he was drafted by Bureau 749 to join the 7th Operations Team. Here, he met various teammates and continued to accumulate merits and improve his strength while dealing with a series of supernatural incidents such as the ghost domain on campus, the corpse exhumation case in western Hunan, and the dispute over the remains of the Dragon Palace in the East China Sea.
As he grows up, Ling Ye not only has to face the conflict between modern urban order and demons and monsters, but also gets involved in the game of various forces in the context of spiritual energy recovery. He must find a balance between his personal "merit-earning" growth and the collective mission of Bureau 749, uncover many secrets such as the system and the ancient demon king, and embark on a journey of urban demon hunting full of challenges and unknowns.
