Synopsis of Capturing the Dragon: The Divine Snow of Zhongnan:
In the summer of 1945, as the War of Resistance neared its end, Xu Guochang, a village headman in North China, and the carpenter Chai were ordered to escort Professor Yang Jingren of Kyoto University and his niece, Wang Shu Qiu, to northern Shaanxi. A Japanese raid forced them to flee into the treacherous mountains. Along the way, Professor Yang revealed that the Japanese were carrying out a top-secret operation called the "Dragon City Plan" in an attempt to turn the tide of the war. To uncover the plan, the group followed a Taoist priest's guidance into Zhang Liangyu Cave. Its master, Daoist Li, sacrificed himself to cover their escape, and the group unexpectedly made it through Taoist trials and got out alive. After traveling across several regions, they obtained a crucial bronze key plate in the Dragon-Locking Cave on Mang Mountain, with help from a guerrilla force. The clues pointed to the Japanese army headquarters in Taiyuan. Chai the carpenter and his companions reached Taiyuan and rescued Zhao Jiahao, a military intelligence agent who was stealing the plan. They learned its true purpose: the Japanese onmyoji Tsuchimikado Kiyohide intended to destroy the feng shui dragon vein of the Qinling Mountains and reverse the country's fortunes! The group crossed the Yellow River to Xi'an, trained, and then entered the Qinling Mountains. Using their memories to find the cave entrance, they opened the Hall of the Twelve Bronze Figures with the bronze key, only to be ambushed by Tsuchimikado and forced into a temporary alliance. The three factions entered the Taoist secret realm of the Divine Palace of Mount Zhongnan together, overcoming five deadly trials: the Road of Silence, the Gate of Wisdom, the Dance of Clashing Blades, the Art of Nine Divinations, and the Roar of the Dragon and Tiger. The Japanese betrayed them repeatedly, and conflict was constant.
At last, they reached the central altar. Tsuchimikado captured the group and began a blood sacrifice to awaken the dragon vein. Chai the carpenter and the others fought with all their might, thwarted the plot, and blew up the giant lizard's lair that guarded it. After enduring countless hardships, they escaped alive.
