In her previous life, Gu Nian'an and the love of her life, Lu Shichuan, both died as a result of a web of conspiracies. Resentful to the end, she was reborn before the tragedy began. But she soon discovered a cruel rule attached to her rebirth: she could use what she knew from her previous life to save the friends and family who were supposed to die in the conspiracies, but every person she successfully saved would cost her one of her most precious memories of Lu Shichuan.
At first, to protect her family, Gu Nian'an resolutely chooses to make the trade. She prevents her father from losing money on an investment, but forgets the first time she met Lu Shichuan. She exposes her best friend's boyfriend for who he really is, but forgets her first date with Lu Shichuan. Lu Shichuan is the only one with all his memories intact. He watches helplessly as the girl who once loved him passionately begins to look at him with unfamiliarity, politeness, and even wariness. Before Gu Nian'an forgets him completely, he must make her fall in love with this “stranger” all over again.
The story follows a cycle of “rescue, forget, pursue again.” Each rescue brings a satisfying triumph, while the ensuing loss of memories puts the couple's relationship to the ultimate test. The male lead goes from pain and confusion to steadfast devotion, repeatedly filling the gaps left by the memories taken from the female lead and creating new bonds with her. In the end, when she is about to forget him completely in order to save one last person, their love will reach its ultimate culmination.
