In the silence of death lie truths the living dare not speak. Lin Yan is a gifted but shunned funeral makeup artist. She can read the faintest “language” on a body: cracked makeup, smeared lipstick, stiffened muscles. Each is a silent accusation from the dead. Her cold gloves shield her from the world of the living, while the missing little finger on her left hand bears the mark of her search for the truth behind her father's death. She thinks her world holds nothing but cold mortuary tables, until the body of a top-tier star is brought in, bearing beneath the collarbone the same bizarre triangular symbol, **Δ**, that was found on her father all those years ago.
Shen Che is a dazzling top-tier star. Beneath his perfect smile lies the nightmare of witnessing his mother's “accidental” fall to her death twenty years ago. When a close friend dies mysteriously and the body is marked with the Δ that haunts his nightmares, he furiously turns on the “ill-omened” woman who touched it. But after clashing with her time and again, he discovers that her cold eyes can see through lies, and the makeup brush in her hand can pierce disguises. More terrifying still, the blurry corner of an old childhood photo on his phone shows a cleaner with a missing finger on her left hand. The figure turns out to be the very enemy Lin Yan has been searching for!
A forbidden profession collides with the glamour of a top-tier star; the dead speak while the living trade in lies. Lin Yan uses her mortuary blade to dissect those lies: cracked foundation reveals a struggle for breath, smeared blush marks the onset of poison, and even the porcelain powder of cremated remains becomes a code that leads her to the killer.
It might be a bit depressing at first, but it gets much better later on. Although there are some parts that are hard to understand, overall it's okay.
