In the Heartpiercer Tower, assassins are ranked into four grades: Heaven, Earth, Mysterious, and Yellow. These are also the four universally recognized stages of martial arts cultivation in the martial world. The protagonist, Xu Mingyue, transmigrates into the body of an Earth-grade assassin, but wants no more part in killing. She simply wants to spend the rest of her life admiring beautiful women. So, during another mission, she fakes her death and escapes, taking on the status of a contract slave to sever all ties with the Heartpiercer Tower and put down roots in this fantastical world of Dream of the Red Chamber.
