Dapeng Bay Has No Shelter tells the story of Zhu Tao from Shaoyang, Hunan, who ventures alone to Shenzhen. Through his own ability, hard work, and diligence, he rises from a factory worker to the head of a publicly listed company. He starts out as a salesperson at Yongsheng Printing Factory and advances one step at a time. Not long after joining the factory, he lands the first deal of his life: a commission of 3,000 yuan for a color-box order from Baolong Electronics. The sales manager quickly promotes him to senior salesperson so he can pursue bigger orders. Fuda Electronics is a Japanese-owned company and a quality supplier to Walmart in the United States. Its monthly orders are worth at least 300,000 yuan, so many printing factories are eager to win its business. That's why Fuda's purchasing manager, Mei Qin, assigns her assistant Tian Xia to greet Zhu Tao warmly on the surface while setting him up with obstacles at every turn. He must overcome thirty trials before he'll have a chance to sign a contract on the thirty-first attempt. Thanks to Zhu Tao's tenacity, never-give-up spirit, and tactful approach, his repeated encounters with Tian Xia spark a romance. They eventually get together and marry. Later, when Yongsheng's sales manager jumps ship, Zhu Tao is promoted directly to the position. Business at Yongsheng keeps improving, and the factory begins preparing to go public. But the SARS outbreak hurts business. Zhu Tao still works tirelessly and ultimately brings in 100 million yuan in sales. At year-end, however, the boss decides that overall business has been poor and pays only 80 percent of the promised bonus. After leaving the factory, Zhu Tao finds a business partner, gets support from his wife Tian Xia, and establishes Yongtao Color Printing Company.
