Shen Zhiyu can talk to animals. While fishing one day, she unexpectedly met Xuexian, a white snake with dragon blood in its veins. She later befriended other spirit pets, including Danxia the crested ibis and Liuhuo the red fox. These little companions could not only talk, but also provide vital clues, helping her crack bizarre cases.
While uncovering the secrets beneath the Longhu Lake sluice, Shen Zhiyu met Gu Yanshen, a forensic examiner with the city police bureau. The two were brought together by the case. As their investigation deepened, they discovered that the crimes involved not only human criminals, but also a Ming-dynasty prison that held “strange beasts.” The spirit pets earned merit by helping solve cases and gradually evolved. Thanks to her unique ability to communicate with animals, Shen Zhiyu was invited to serve as an external consultant to the police force. Together with Gu Yanshen and her spirit companions, she set out on an adventure to uncover more secrets hidden among the mountains and waters, and protect all living things.
