[Bittersweet + Reunion after years apart + Mutual devotion + Mutual secret crush #Healing #Sweet after the reunion]
The first part can be read as an angsty unrequited-love story.
A lonely boy with a hearing aid in his right ear * a pessimistic girl shaped by rainy-season literature (Zhou Huai * Lin Du)
The first part is an angsty, heart-wrenching secret crush.
“That rainy season, neither of us learned how to be brave.”
The rainy season of 2009 came early and hard. Lin Du would always remember the day transfer student Zhou Huai walked into her classroom, rainwater dripping from his hearing aid. It was the first time she had seen anyone look so good in a white shirt, and the first time someone noticed the secret she had hidden beneath her poems.
They should have had so many chances. Like the clear umbrella she lent him that day, the water bottle he secretly refilled for her between classes, and the diary she hid in the very back of her desk, only for him to quietly return it to the bookshelf. But that’s how youth is: the more your heart is stirred, the harder it is to say anything.
In their senior year, Zhou Huai left Jiangcheng for good, and she thought they would never see each other again.
Then, in the winter of her senior year at university, the mint-scented boy appeared just as he had back then, clutching twelve candy wrappers and asking to trade them for a present.
“What do you want to trade for?”
“You.”
He healed his right ear, completed his credits, and headed to Jiangcheng for the sake of one person.
“Lin Du, I came here to love you.”
Very nice! It makes me so sweet! Come on, author!
The author's writing is pretty good, but the first four-fifths are pretty sad, and then it starts to get sweet.
It's good-looking, the secret love between the male and female protagonists, wandering, well written, very real, and the back part is super sweet
