All Fishing for Snow on the Cold River

To inherit the family business, Jiang Xuehan was adopted by her late uncle, even going so far as to get plastic surgery to look more like him.

Everyone in their circles says she is scheming and will stop at nothing to get what she wants.

The reason she was sent away was that she had “lost” her younger sister.

Now that she’s back, she makes careful plans, mends relationships, and plays the part of a daughter moved by family love.

Everyone thinks she has curbed her ambition, but no one sees through the ambition beneath her gentle mask.

Until Du Linfeng, sent to Haicheng, mails her a handwritten love poem:

“I’d be the eternal hand on your watch face, keeping you company in the hidden dark as we count the dawns and dusks of every passing year.”

She laughs at his childish writing, but still sets off for Haicheng.

Beneath the kapok trees, his steady eyes reflect the crimson sky as he holds her hand tight.

For the first time, she feels that this move is one she’s made willingly.

At a family banquet, he publicly transfers half his fortune to her, his voice firm:

“We’re family. What’s mine is yours.”

She smiles and accepts this weighty display of “sincerity.”

But in the shadows after she turns away, she speaks softly into her phone:

“Brother, we’ll accept this generous gift from the Du family.”

Before she can finish, the man who wrote her that poem steps out from behind a pillar, his eyes red with emotion:

“Jiang Xuehan... Were you acting when our hearts raced beneath the kapok trees too?”
