"New Youth (original version, 9 volumes)" was the most influential ideological magazine during the New Culture Movement in China. From its inception in 1915 to its final publication in 1926, it published a total of 9 volumes and 54 issues. It was first named "Youth Magazine" and changed its name to "New Youth" the following year. It was initiated by Chen Duxiu as editor-in-chief. Later, it gathered Hu Shi, Lu Xun, Li Dazhao and others at Peking University, and became the core position of Enlightenment thought.
This magazine held high the two banners of "democracy" and "science", advocated vernacular literature, opposed old morality, actively promoted the literary revolution, and created a new trend among modern Chinese intellectuals. Hu Shi's "A Preliminary Discussion on Literary Reform", Lu Xun's "A Madman's Diary", Li Dazhao's "The Victory of the Common People" and other important articles were first published here, and they have far-reaching influence. "New Youth" is not only a symbol of the May Fourth spirit, but also an important witness of modern China's move towards ideological emancipation and cultural reconstruction.
