Emperor Taiwu of Northern Wei’s persecution of Buddhism, known as the “Taiwu Suppression of Buddhism,” was a major religious event during the Northern and Southern Dynasties. Its main causes were the conflict between political authority and Buddhist influence, economic tensions, and the emperor’s personal religious leanings. These can be summed up in three points:
1. Political and military threats: Buddhism grew rapidly in the early Northern Wei, and the number of monks and nuns soared. They enjoyed exemptions from taxes, corvée labor, and military service, and the large numbers of able-bodied young people entering the clergy depleted the state’s supply of soldiers and labor. Some monasteries also occupied vast amounts of land and property, sheltered refugees, and even took part in local power struggles, threatening the foundations of centralized rule in Northern Wei.
2. Conflicts over economic interests: Buddhist monasteries amassed enormous wealth through donations from followers and the acquisition of land, yet paid no taxes to the state. At a time when Northern Wei needed to concentrate resources to repel invasions by the Rouran in the north and consolidate its rule, this severely damaged state revenues and worsened the gap between rich and poor as well as class tensions.
3. Personal beliefs and the influence of powerful officials: Emperor Taiwu himself favored Taoism, particularly under the influence of the Taoist Kou Qianzhi, and later even converted to Taoism. He already felt cultural and religious antipathy toward Buddhism. In addition, the influential official Cui Hao, who favored Taoism and opposed Buddhism, repeatedly urged the emperor to act, arguing that Buddhism “wastes the people’s strength and misleads their minds.” This ultimately prompted Emperor Taiwu to issue an edict suppressing Buddhism in the seventh year of the Tai Ping Zhen Jun era (446). Monasteries were forcibly demolished, scriptures and statues burned, and monks and nuns ordered to return to secular life. It was the first major campaign in Chinese history known as the “Three Wu and One Zong Suppressions of Buddhism.”
Don't tell me, I really feel like that. I have read this type of book before, and it was also about healing (I read that book three times that year) But this book is also very good, except for some small places that are a bit stiff 💕💕💕💕 I don't quite understand the last world, and I don't quite understand why the heroine fell in love with Little Barty. In the beginning, Little Barty really listened to what the heroine said... Maybe it's because I didn't like the last world very much when I first read the first chapter, so I always looked at it with a critical eye. Although I still didn't like it in the end, it felt a bit strange... Anyway, it's not to my taste. When I read novels, my likes and dislikes often come out of nowhere. In fact, it's not too bad when you think about it, but from a sensory perspective, I just feel like I don't like it, which makes me uncomfortable 🤦 🤦 🤦
Go ahead, it's so damn good! The author's writing is so good! ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭The teacher's food tastes so good. I can actually eat such good food in my lifetime. Teacher must persevere and update it every day ❤️❤️ Teacher, I want to watch Loki and Tony's Marvel movies, please [send my heart] [send my heart] [send my heart] [send my heart] [send my heart] [send my heart] [send my heart]
I have read Batman, Nightwing, Superman, and Red Robin. Personally, I like Superman and Braised Ice Slices better. I feel that the logic and story atmosphere are my favorite types, and I feel that the atmosphere is relatively within the scope that I can understand. The Batman and Nightwing chapter has a slightly suspended fairy tale feel, and it feels more like the good wishes of the author's world. For the chapters I have read, I would give it a score of about 7.2.
I only read the first two stories, and they were quite interesting, with a calming, gentle, and soothing feeling.
A very nice comprehensive British and American fanfic! Each unit has a different story and character design, I like it🥰
