In 2242, humanity enters the “Age of Interstellar Exploration,” but is held in check at the edge of the Milky Way by the “Alliance of Advanced Civilizations.” Earth is classified as a “Level Three Protected Civilization,” which is really just a way of keeping humanity penned in. The “Abandoned Star Zone” where the protagonist lives is a dumping ground where the Alliance exiles the refuse of “lower civilizations.”
