In the apocalypse after the collapse of the environment, resources are depleted and hunger is the only master. Father Li Zhe and his young daughter Xiaoyu went through hardships and fled to the rumored "Hope Valley" refuge. The initial sense of order was quickly shattered: food rations were meager and the guards were brutal. A shocking truth was discovered by Li Zhe - the raw material of the "special protein" on which "Hope Valley" depends is actually a living person.
The "Survival Committee" headed by the leader Zhao Tieshan used the cold logic of "collective survival" and "necessary sacrifice" to institutionalize evil: selecting "useless people" as "human sacrifices", hypocritical "voluntariness" and cruel drawing of lots were used as a fig leaf. In order to keep his daughter Xiaoyu's food rations, Li Zhe was forced to become an accomplice of this man-eating machine, recording lists and distributing "meat sources", and his conscience was tortured in despair. Power corrupts rapidly, and screening criteria become increasingly stringent. When the cold system finally extended its claws to Xiao Yu, Li Zhe was pushed to the edge of the abyss - to resist this hell that devours humanity, or to sacrifice even his last humanity in order to survive?
