Dreaming Back to the Tang Dynasty

Dreaming of the Tang Dynasty tells the story of Lin Xiaowei, a history graduate student who transmigrates to the Tang dynasty and takes possession of Shen Yanzhi, the son of the junior prefect of Jingzhao. He grows and faces challenges in government, public welfare, commerce, and other fields. After transmigrating, Shen Yanzhi uses modern knowledge to solve a host of problems, from managing grain reserves in the charity granaries to settling disputes with foreign merchants. He also showcases his talent in poetry classes at the Imperial College and in mathematics competitions. He enters government through the imperial examinations, takes part in reforms to the grain transport system, and improves the charity granary system in an effort to improve people's lives.

In matters of the heart, he is engaged to Su Wan'er. They exchange poems and share a deep bond, sealed by an embroidered token made before their wedding. Miao, a physician from Lingnan, falls in love with him. They grow close while treating victims of miasma and gathering herbs, but their feelings remain unspoken when they part. In business, he gets involved in the affairs of the Western Market's foreign merchants' alliance, forms a cross-regional caravan, competes for control of spice prices, and opens a new trade route along the Silk Road.

At the same time, he finds himself caught in the storm of the Niu-Li factional strife. He goes through many trials as he maneuvers against the Li faction to protect his father. In Lingnan, he successfully promotes sugarcane and cotton cultivation, bringing in a double harvest of sugar and cotton and boosting the local economy. In the end, he puts down roots in the Tang dynasty and makes a name for himself as an author at the Imperial Academy. He records his experience in a book on agriculture. In his later years, he retires to the countryside and teaches the next generation. His deeds are recorded in the history books, and he leaves behind a legend of his own in the Tang dynasty.
