(The author isn't very good at coming up with novel titles, so please bear with me.)
The Great Yin Dynasty, during the Jingyuan era. Xiao Jing, who ascended the throne as a child, was brilliant but prematurely mature. Caught in the heart of the struggle for power, he lacked affection and a sense of security. His first imperial tutor was Shen Zhao, a gifted man from a reclusive martial arts family, who also carried a secret. Ten years older than Xiao Jing, Shen Zhao was gentle and refined, with vast learning. His distinctive charm and steadfast guidance won the young emperor's trust and dependence. As Xiao Jing grew from boy to young man, his feelings for Shen Zhao quietly shifted from reverence for his teacher to forbidden yearning. But Xiao Jing's innate imperial cunning and fierce possessiveness made this love twisted and dangerous. At court, undercurrents swirled: princes fought over the succession, powerful officials plotted rebellion, and war blazed on the borders. Domestic turmoil and external threats never ceased. Shen Zhao was not only Xiao Jing's teacher, but gradually became the only person he could trust completely. Together, they protected the Great Yin Dynasty through its turbulent times. But the gulf between their stations, the shackles of convention, Xiao Jing's ever-growing need for control, and forces beyond their power all drove their love, doomed to be rejected by the world, toward tragedy. In the end, perhaps to protect Xiao Jing, or perhaps as a casualty of political struggle, Shen Zhao died, leaving Xiao Jing consumed by pain and regret. Alone on the dragon throne, he guarded the memory of their forbidden love until the end of his life.
