The SL Veil Foundation

Humans have been around for 250,000 years, but only the last 4,000 have meant anything.

So what did we do for nearly 250,000 years? We hid in caves, huddled around little campfires, terrified of things we didn't understand: explanations for how the sun rose, monsters with human heads and bird bodies, and stones that were alive.

So we called them "gods" and "demons," and begged them for forgiveness and salvation.

Then their numbers dwindled, while ours grew. As fewer and fewer things frightened us, we began to look at the world more rationally.

But the inexplicable things never disappeared, as if the universe were deliberately showing off its absurdity and impossibility. Humanity could no longer live in fear.

Nothing can protect us. We have to protect ourselves.

While others live in the sunlight, we must fight them in the shadows and keep them from being exposed to the public, so that everyone else can live in a rational, ordinary world.

We protect. We contain. We control.
