A Magical History: The Legend of the Moonflower Queen

[Epic fantasy · female-led · magic · knights · conspiracy · famine]

When Ailiwei Jin saw her master, Kebai Jin, kneel before her in salute, she understood that she was no longer, and never again could be, the girl who playfully clung to her master. In her place stood the queen of the Silvester Elf Kingdom.

The heavy crown on her head made it hard to breathe. She tilted her head slightly, hoping to lessen its weight, only to catch the chancellor staring straight at her with a viper's gaze. The look sent a chill down her spine.

For a moment, she wanted to flee this place, to escape the throne. But the throne beneath her held her fast like a swamp. She was mired in it, helpless and unable to move.

In a daze, she felt a hand pat her back. Startled, she turned, only to squeeze her eyes shut against the sunlight pouring toward her.

The light wasn't dazzling. If anything, it was soft, but she couldn't adjust to it at first.

She had stared into the darkness for too long, until she had forgotten what light was.
