"Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms" begins with the Huangchao Uprising in 875 AD and ends with the Chenqiao Mutiny in 960 AD, unfolding a long scroll of more than 70 years of troubled times. This is a disintegrating era in which "the wine and meat of the noble families stinks, and the bones are frozen to death on the road": the Golden Palace of the Tang Dynasty collapsed under Huang Chao's iron hoof, the fang flag of the feudal town was erected in the sea of ​​​​blood on the corpse mountain, the emperor's dragon robe was stained with the blood of his parents and children, and the rough scabbard hid the dream of seeking the throne. The story begins with the flash of swords in Caozhou's reed swamps - Huang Chao, a private salt dealer, clutching salt crystals and swearing to "equalize"; Zhu Wen, a cowherd boy, surrenders to the army with moldy millet cakes; Li Keyong, a Shatuo cavalryman, pierces the dusk of Chang'an with his arrowhead. There is no stereotype of loyalty and traitor here: Huang Chao not only took the refugees to divide the grain into official warehouses, but also indulged his subordinates to massacre the city in Chang'an; Zhu Wen not only resisted the powerful enemy at the top of Bianzhou City, but also killed the king and usurped the throne deep in the palace; Yang Xingmi governed the Jianghuai River and allowed the people to farm safely, but he used poison, wine and poison to kill his sworn brothers.
