A sudden meteor shower, carrying unknown and deadly radiation, destroys the order of human civilization. Zombies run rampant, disasters rage, and survivors struggle to stay alive in despair. Su Wan, a gifted student in both biology and medicine, fights to survive the chaos as disaster erupts, only to discover that her body has developed an unusual resistance to radiation and can even faintly sense the energy of living things. More unsettling still, Gu Jin, the mysterious “mortal enemy” who always clashed with her at university, is trapped with her in the same shelter when their lives are on the line.
Reborn, Su Wan's memories are hazy, with only a few fragments and a lingering sense of imminent danger. Drawing on her deep understanding of biology and her awakened ability to sense life, she gradually grows from a student fighting to survive into an indispensable “hand of hope” for the shelter, in an apocalypse where resources are scarce and people are hard to read. She can treat radiation sickness, slow zombification, identify edible mutant plants, and analyze zombie weaknesses.
Gu Jin, once cold and distant, with a past shrouded in mystery, not only has powerful combat abilities but also seems to know something about the source of the disaster. The pressure of survival complicates the hostility between them. Forced to set aside their differences, they support one another amid the perilous ruins, moving from suspicion and testing each other to standing together through hardship. When Gu Jin is gravely wounded protecting her and nears zombification, Su Wan faces a difficult choice: risk exposing her secret and use her still-unmastered healing ability to save her “archenemy,” or follow the brutal rules of the apocalypse and save herself?
