Focusing on the uninhabited waters of the South Pacific, it is the world's typhoon-prone zone, with complex ocean currents (such as the intersection of the Agulhas Current and the westerly drift), lurking dangers of giant waves, reefs, sharks, and occasional "relics of civilization" such as abandoned shipwrecks and drifting bottles. There is no signal in the sea far away from the mainland. The only reference is the sun, moon, stars and the direction of the waves. Survival depends entirely on experience and luck.
