A Granary in Hand, a Peach Blossom Haven in My Heart

Lin Xi wakes in a desperate situation, the only able-bodied adult in a band of refugees, surrounded by the elderly, women, and children. The road ahead is strewn with starving corpses, while pursuers close in behind. Drawing on modern knowledge and an unyielding will, she leads everyone into the desolate Xiyuan Hollow to reclaim the land and save themselves. From identifying wild yams to stave off hunger and burning fields to enrich the soil, to building grass huts for shelter and constructing irrigation works, she kindles hope with practicality and innovation. When powerful bullies oppress them, she unites the people through “work-for-relief.” When the powerful covet their home, she forms a “women's guard” to defend it. Through backbreaking effort, they build something great from nothing. In the end, the barren hollow becomes a haven amid chaos, with waves of wheat and neat rows of houses. Standing on the land she cultivated with her own hands, Lin Xi witnesses the power of a united people: there is no need to rely on anyone else. Put down roots and reach for the sky. Full granaries and a united community make the strongest foundation for a realm.
