College student Tang Yuan is driven to the rooftop by a wrongful conviction. The moment he leaps, he awakens a mysterious card ability. When he opens his eyes again, he finds himself in a bizarre, surreal world: a proving ground between life and death. Every instance hides a tragedy buried by time, and the slightest mistake can leave him torn apart by resentful entities known as "the Weird."
He meets Dongfang Yang, a timid Daoist disciple who always trusts him, and joins forces with seasoned Team 98 leader Liu Quan, calm and perceptive deputy leader Liu Xuan, and hot-tempered, fiercely protective fighter Liu Meng. In the clock shop in Rusty Iron Village, they wage a desperate battle against a wealthy ghost, solve a time-based puzzle through sheer ingenuity, and carve out a path to survival with Tang Yuan's card ability.
From being forced into terrifying instances to settling in at the Rose Hotel as an "underworld being," they trade years of their lives for a chance to survive and use trust to stand against the treachery of human nature. Tang Yuan's cards hold the fury of the wronged and the gifts of the kindhearted, but the rules of this world have already been written: find your way home through the bloody fog, or become the next forgotten grudge.
A life-or-death gamble in the form of a game of trials.
