Death is where their story begins.
Chu Yezhi, the beautiful owner of a flower shop; Song Yuanlong, the arrogant basketball coach; Zhang Yunhe, the gentle doctor; and Lin Lulu, the child chess prodigy: all four are brutally murdered at the very start of the story, becoming fleeting footnotes in a savior-themed novel.
Yet consciousness suddenly flickers to life in the abyss of endless pages. A cold mechanical voice announces that they are "Awakened Ones," and their only path to survival is to travel through countless fictional worlds, playing supporting characters doomed to die.
Hope drives this strange "Squad of the Dead":
Chu Yezhi (22, beautiful older-sister exterior, sweet-girl heart): Afraid of pain, yet forced to face death again and again.
Song Yuanlong (21, handsome bone structure, childish troublemaker): Hot-tempered and stubborn, he hates being told what to do.
Zhang Yunhe (23, handsome face, the gentle one): He tries to preserve a little warmth amid despair.
Lin Lulu (13, a kid brother straight out of Detective Conan): Calmly analyzes situations and searches for loopholes in the rules.
Again and again, they are reborn, and again and again, they go to their deaths. But collecting stardust grows slower and slower, while the "Star Chalice" that seemed within arm's reach now feels like an illusion beyond reach. Exhaustion seeps into their bones, and questions multiply wildly:
Why must the price of "life" be endless "death"?
Why does the light of hope grow dimmer the harder they struggle?
Is the fate of a "supporting character" truly impossible to escape?
When the supporting characters' will burns fiercely, vowing to tear apart this predetermined script of death...
Supporting characters cannot die!
