A Zhu, the lamplighter at the Ferry of Forgotten Rivers, keeps a mysterious glass lamp. For three hundred years, strange changes in its wick have disturbed the Underworld’s peace. The pure blue flame has turned scarlet, and a flower bud has appeared inside the lamp. Within it, the faint image of Qing Heng can be seen: a girl who was swallowed by flames a century ago.
When black fireflies bring a stench of decay and fragments of memory, Wu Jiu appears in a bronze mask to collect a debt. An old ferryman’s words reveal what happened a hundred years ago: Qing Heng’s soul was used to light the lamp. When her soul is reborn within it, A Zhu faces a difficult choice: obey the law of equivalent exchange, or defy it and help her escape.
But an even more astonishing secret lies behind it all. The sacrifice a century ago was not what it seemed. It was a murder involving seven lives, and the glass lamp is really a resentful flame guarding the evidence. As A Zhu and Qing Heng struggle amid reincarnation and truth, their fates remain entwined with the lamp. In the mists of the Forgotten River, they must face the Underworld Lord’s game, unravel every mystery, and seek their final resting place.
