Source Dao Dragon Ball: Nine Heavens Rule the Cosmos tells the story of Long Yu, a Dao Venerable from the Sea of Nothingness. Because his “Dao of Power” is incomplete, he sends half of his Dao Origin to inhabit Frieza’s body, creating a new Frieza who enters the Dragon Ball world. The new Frieza retains his original abilities, starts with a battle power of 530,000, and possesses three transformation stages. He uses Dao nature to control his power and abandons his brutality. The ancestral witch Xuan Ming splits off half her power to become Ming Tian, who resembles Android 18, and accompanies him as an anchor for the Dao laws.
The story follows the main plot of Dragon Ball Z: from Ming Tian stepping in to take control when Vegeta arrives on Earth, to a standoff with Cooler’s fleet on Planet Namek; from guiding Goku to achieve Super Saiyan and helping Gohan control his ki to fight Cell, to using Dao nature to prevent Buu’s rampage. Guided by the principle of “uniting power and the Dao,” the new Frieza corrects classic regrets, such as protecting Android 16 and preserving Goku’s residual soul, while also helping characters like Vegeta and Gohan understand “the Dao beyond power.”
In the end, the new Frieza’s battle power surpasses twenty billion, and his Dao-transformed final form reaches perfection. He returns to Long Yu’s original body, completing the “Dao of Power.” From the Hall of Origins, Long Yu gazes upon the Dragon Ball world and sees the Dao’s resonance merge with power, with all things on the path of the Dao. His three lifetimes of love and the evolution of the myriad heavens and worlds all reach perfection.
