Transmigrate to the Eighties as a Chubby Girl: Pickling My Way to a Sweet Life

In a prejudice-ridden rural village in the 1980s, Lin Xiaoman is the "fat girl" everyone gossips about. Matchmakers say, "She's so broad and heavy, no good man will marry her." The villagers laugh that she's "all brawn and no prospects." Even her engagement falls apart when her fiancé decides she's "not slim enough." But nobody expects this girl, mocked for her "big, broad frame," to pickle jar after jar of crisp, savory wild vegetables, forging a path to success and a sweet life of her own.

When she first starts her business, she endures doubts that she's "not taking anything seriously" and experiments with recipes in a drafty old warehouse. She spends the money she saved on food to buy salt, then takes her younger brother up the mountain in the rain to gather wild vegetables. With no capital, she steels herself to ask Zhou Mingyuan, an official at the supply and marketing cooperative, for a loan. Short on workers, she rallies the village women to work together, using fair wages to challenge the old belief that "women are no match for men." When imitators appear, she stands up for her rights with her trademark registration certificate, making the name "Xiaoman Pickles" increasingly well-known.

From a small workshop at the village entrance to a model enterprise in the county, from the cooperative's shelves to international trade fairs, Lin Xiaoman not only makes her pickled wild vegetables famous across the country, but also helps the whole village grow vegetables and prosper, establishing a standardized cultivation base. Zhao Tieniu, who once broke off their engagement because she was fat, has since become her strongest support. He stays by her through an order crisis and a storm of mistrust, while the two plant the seeds of love among the fields.

This isn't a story about turning one's life around through looks. It's about an ordinary girl proving through sweat and perseverance that one's figure is never a shackle. A soul that loves life and dares to strive will eventually take root and bear fruit in the soil of its time.
