Synopsis

To pay off his enormous debts, down-on-his-luck young man Chen Mo takes a high-risk job: spend seven days in Oak Manor, a century-old haunted house, as a "haunted-house sleep tester" and earn a fortune. His employer leaves him seven eerie rules:

Rule One: No matter what you hear, never leave the bedroom.

Rule Two: When footsteps sound at midnight, pretend to be asleep.

Rule Three: If you smell something rotten, turn on the lights immediately.

Rule Four: The mirror is safe. The person in it won't hurt you.

Rule Five: If a stranger appears in the mirror, smile at them immediately.

Rule Six: Never enter the basement.

Rule Seven: Don't trust any of the rules.

I remember reading a novel a long time ago on my mom's phone, but I've forgotten the title. I was in sixth grade and thought it was terrifying, so after reading a bit, I was too scared to continue. It suddenly came back to me recently, and now I really want to find it again.
