Chen Mo, an unknown author of detective novels in reality, discovered an unfinished manuscript while sorting through the belongings of his late mentor, the legendary suspense writer Lin Shen. The details of the case in the manuscript are bizarre and highly overlap with an unsolved "serial locked room murder case" ten years ago. It even contains scene details that have never been made public by the police. What's even weirder is that the end of each chapter in the manuscript is marked with a date, and these dates happen to correspond to recent bizarre deaths in reality.
In order to uncover the connection between his mentor and the old case, and to prevent the next death predicted by the manuscript, Chen Mo was forced to walk out of the study and step into the "realistic path" described in the manuscript. He followed the clues in the manuscript, only to find that he was falling step by step into a huge trap that spanned ten years: missing witnesses, tampered evidence, a mysterious organization secretly pursuing him, a "shadow writer" who could predict his actions in advance... Every time he solved a mystery, a deeper mystery would be involved, and the detective story routines he wrote frequently failed in the face of real bloodshed and conspiracy. When he realized that he might also be a "written character" in the manuscript, the only way to break the situation was to find a path in the gap between reality and the manuscript that even the "author" could not predict.
