Notes on Raising Corpses

Lin Feng never imagined that his family’s generations-old trade of “raising corpses” would drag him into an abyss in such a bloody fashion. When his father pressed the blood-soaked Secret Manual of Corpse Raising into his hands on his deathbed, Lin Feng thought he was taking over a livelihood involving coffins and talismans. He had no idea he was holding a blood curse that had haunted the Lin family for generations. When Widow Wang from the neighboring village knocked on the ancestral hall door, her face smeared with blood, and everyone in the village became a shuffling silhouette of the dead, Lin Feng finally understood the bloody words on the last page of the Secret Manual of Corpse Raising: “The blood curse will not fade, and the corpse spirits will never cease. Only a whole village offered as a sacrifice can bring peace.” The livid marks spreading across his arm have already reached his heart. The rattling groans of a corpse are beginning to rise from his throat, while the blank spaces in the thread-bound ancient book are filling themselves with the name of the next corpse-raiser: Lin Feng.
