Mystery and deduction, strange urban tales, an adorable assistant, a strong female lead (don’t read this as a detective novel!!!)
An impossible locked-room murder with no logical explanation: the victim is found with a knife through the heart, and the surveillance footage somehow creates an absolutely sealed room.
The rational detective’s worldview crumbles as his assistant frantically flips through her Encyclopedia of Demons. “Brother Changqing! It has to be a monster that sews human skin together!”
Wang Changqing stares at the inhuman, neither-dead-nor-alive thing squirming before him. “Since when do monsters get to ignore the law of the land after the founding of the People’s Republic?”
Su Yuting raises her hand, a candied hawthorn skewer between her teeth. “I can smell demonic energy, you know~ Want me to help?”
And when a second case comes knocking before he even realizes it, he finally understands: the first impossible locked-room murder was only an appetizer for Records of Urban Demonic Tales...
“So you’d better keep me, your adorable assistant, around forever. What would you do the next time you run into a case like this, Brother Changqing?”
“You? At most, you’re a walking demonic-energy detector.”
The author's writing is delicate and the plots are interlocking.
