At the bottom of the river in Zhuolang Town, Chu Renmei's resentment lingers for thirty years.
She was once a girl who could attract butterflies with her embroidery skills. After marrying Shen Wanshan, she was framed by her husband and the grain merchant's widow. She was given dumb drugs, tied up in sacks, and fell into a river. The water in the autumn flood that year was as cold as ice.
In the first ten years, she was just a wisp of cold mist at the bottom of the river. The boatman picked up her black hair and it turned into mud with a pinch. In Shen Wanshan's newly built blue brick building, there was always a fishy smell floating in the well water. His youngest son said, "There is an aunt in the well." He fell into the well and died soon after. His body was swollen like soaked cotton wool.
Resentment grows wildly with the blood debt. The widow was dragged into the river by water plants while doing laundry. When her body floated up, her face was covered with her unfinished embroidered mandarin duck handkerchief. Shen Wanshan went crazy and walked into the Zhuolang River holding a stone. The body was stuck in the place where she sank.
But this is not enough.
Songs began to sing at night, soft but covered with ice, flowing from the river to the town. Fragments of green clothes floated in the water tank, long hair covering the face flashed in the mirror, and there were footprints with algae on the bluestone.
From the cold mist at the bottom of the river, she condensed into a shadow that could crush the moonlight; from disturbing a well water, she made the moonlight in the whole town smell of river mud.
The descendants of those who watched indifferently back then are now building Western-style buildings. And the water of the Zhuolang River was flowing over the bluestone slabs, heading towards the illuminated window lattice - her hatred had just awakened.
