Even False Fat Is Still False

The year she turned thirty, You Zhaodi did two crazy things.

First, she clutched her household registration booklet and changed the name that had been stamped with the mission of "bringing a little brother into the family." She became You Lai: Lai, as in having come into this world. From then on, she would never again be anyone's appendage.

Second, on a rainy night, she gave the first time she had treasured for half her life to a strange twenty-year-old boy. He was an art student who sketched beneath the streetlights, so poor that all he had were his paintbrushes and the light in his eyes. Yet his burning passion shattered her old rule that she had to save her first time for her wedding night.

Five relationships had already taught her: love without a sex life really is a pile of loose sand.

Her male best friend, Jiang Chi, was getting married. The bride was someone You Lai had introduced to him herself. Looking at the names on the invitation, she suddenly realized that even thinking they could be "friends forever" had been wishful thinking.

It took her half a lifetime to break free of the label of "someone else's appendage," going from You Zhaodi to You Lai. Let love fall apart like loose sand, or let herself fall into the mud: at last, she had become the person her name promised, You Lai, someone who had come into this world for herself.

And that twenty-year-old boy was devoted and deeply in love with her. He truly loved her, and he taught her how to love.
