Tears of a Captive Flower in Shanghai

During the Republican era, Shanghai socialite Shen Ruoyan kills her unfaithful fiancé in a fit of rage, falling from a life of luxury as a young wife to a condemned prisoner in Tilanqiao Prison. After she is sentenced to death at her first trial, her family spends everything appealing the verdict. The kindness of people like Auntie Zhou in prison becomes a faint glimmer of hope. As she struggles against the Gu family's abuse of power and the shadow of a retrial, her family's efforts, her growing feelings for her lawyer, and her own unyielding will to live intertwine. In the end, the setting sun over Shanghai illuminates the final chapter of her fate, leaving behind a dirge of love, resistance, and the sorrow of an age.
