A Country Girl? Not Even the Capital's Noble Ladies Can Hold a Candle to Me

[Two equally powerful leads + hiding one’s strength behind a harmless act + secret identities]

Heroine: Quick-witted and clever, with a whole host of skills, but she loves hiding her abilities and pretending to be a little white rabbit.

Hero: A refined young gentleman who holds real power.

Wen Lan is sent by imperial order to search for treasure. The first time he meets Sang Guo, he catches her fiddling with a rigged scale to cheat someone out of a little money.

Wen Lan never imagined that this person, who talks nonsense, is slippery, greedy, and crude, would be the only one who knows where the treasure is hidden.

Deep down, Wen Lan looks down on someone like Sang Guo. But his upbringing keeps him from showing it.

He plans to part ways with her as soon as he has used her. But things gradually seem to slip out of his control...

Chang’an sees Wen Lan so worried about Sang Guo’s injury that he stays up all night. “Master, why do you care so much about her?”

Wen Lan: “Care?”

The word makes Wen Lan feel inexplicably flustered.

But he quickly comes up with an explanation. “She’s the only person who knows where the treasure map is, of course I have to care.”

A little scene of Wen Lan forgetting his principles:

Sang Guo: “The scar on my face takes up almost the whole thing. I’m ugly!”

Wen Lan: “How could you say that? I think it’s a very distinctive scar, like a cute butterfly.”

People mock Sang Guo for her crude manners. Putting on a sorrowful expression, she says, “I’m so uncouth. If I keep spending time with you, I’m afraid I’ll make you look bad. Perhaps I should leave...”

Without caring that the emperor is present, Wen Lan quietly pulls out a knife and presses it into Sang Guo’s hand. “Since Miss Su is so fond of running her mouth, my wife certainly doesn’t need to spare her any dignity.”
