The author of Amazing Tales, which includes First Series of Amazing Tales and Second Series of Amazing Tales, was Ling Mengchu, a renowned Ming dynasty writer and novelist. Translation by Wen Jie, a modern author who has translated many classics.
Ling Mengchu (1580–1644), courtesy name Xuanfang and literary name Chucheng, was also known as Master Jikongguan. He was from Wucheng, Zhejiang, present-day Huzhou.
- Life and achievements: He came from an official family, but repeatedly failed the imperial examinations, so he turned his attention to literary creation. Besides the two collections of Amazing Tales, he also wrote plays and other works, and made notable contributions to Chinese opera.
