Yuan Nian was a mass of resentment born in the palace, formed by absorbing the resentment of its masters and servants over many years. It had no idea why it had come into being or what it was meant to do. It only knew that the palace smelled so wonderful, and the people there smelled wonderful too. It loved staying in the palace, until one day it was drawn to a soul. The wonderful fragrance that soul gave off was irresistible, so it agreed to the soul's request and took her place to live another life.
