The Shackles of Malice

“Xun, I hate you most of all. What about you? Do you hate me?”

Jian Xun was born in Fu’an Village, the fourth child his parents had. Though the youngest, he was the least loved; his parents doted only on his three older brothers. No matter what the little boy did for them, all he got in return was their contemptuous tone and even harsher treatment. Hatred took root in his heart then. It was the first time he had ever felt it.

When he was twelve, the neighbors, unable to have children, adopted a boy named Pei Jinsheng. That was the first time the two met.

As they spent more time together, they became close friends who shared everything.

But the good times didn’t last. Their relationship began to fracture when Jian Xun’s parents became very fond of Pei Jinsheng’s intelligence. After that, whenever Jian Xun did something they disapproved of, they would compare him to Pei Jinsheng.

He killed Pei Jinsheng and buried him on the slope where they had first met.

That night, Jian Xun dreamed that one of Pei Jinsheng’s hands emerged from the ground, followed by his head, then his body.

“Xun, I’m so angry. Your punishment is so painful. I’m so cold. Why don’t you come down and warm me up?”

A ghost had latched onto him.
