Chen Jiu transmigrates into the Primordial World and becomes a cannon-fodder attendant who dances on Lady Shiji’s grave.
From the start, he runs into the birth of the Monkey King and picks up a piece of junk that turns out to be a time demon god’s companion spirit treasure. The catch? Repairing it requires the calamity energy from a great tribulation.
So he gets to work:
[Farming] He builds a greenhouse for spirit herbs among the ruins, using time acceleration to grow thousand-year-old ginseng that he crunches like radishes.
[Scavenging] The Heavenly Court surrounds Flower-Fruit Mountain? He hides in a crack in the ground, picking up peach pits while absorbing calamity energy and mocking the heavenly soldiers’ acting.
[Disguise] The Buddhist Sect cracks down after the havoc in Heaven? He rewinds time to erase his footprints and becomes a humble sweeping monk, keeping his merits and name hidden.
Five hundred years later, the pilgrimage tribulation begins.
With his spirit treasure still short by one final, colossal gulp of “energy,” Chen Jiu sets his sights on the civil servant at the Flowing Sands River.
“Brother Sha, that flying sword-through-the-heart experience card of yours… I’ll help you cancel it!”
He disguises himself as Sha Wujing and joins the pilgrimage, and the whole story goes completely off the rails:
Brother Monkey points his staff at the Yellow Wind Demon. “Where’s the wind? Did you skip lunch?”
Bajie watches the White Bone Demon. “Miss, one of your bone spurs got stuck in my rake!”
Tang Sanzang calmly munches on snacks. “Bodhisattva Guanyin, this is going to cost extra…”
As the gods and Buddhas realize that every tribulation has turned into a comedy show,
Chen Jiu runs off at full speed with the time spirit treasure slung over his shoulder.
“Stop chasing me! I’m just an eco-friendly calamity-energy recycler!”
