He Couldn't Sever His Mortal Ties, Yet He Understood the Heavenly Dao

Zhao Guibin, an orphan from Qingfeng Village in the mortal realm, was born with "no spiritual root," yet he could communicate with plants and was regarded as a "heretic" by the cultivation world. When an earthquake caused a spiritual vein to leak, he unexpectedly awakened a Chaos Spirit Body that could devour the spiritual energy of all things, setting him on the path to immortality.

He joins forces with Su Muxue, a girl with a wood-type pseudo-spiritual root, to brave dangerous lands and pierce through the mists, struggling to make his way in the gap between the mortal realm and the cultivation world. At the Qingyun Sect, he is ostracized and ambushed because of his Chaos Spirit Body, yet in a desperate situation, he forms an attribute-less golden core. In the Western Desert's Demon Abyss, he meets Mo Chen, the proud young master of the Black Qilin clan, and uncovers a thousand-year-old secret behind the withering spiritual veins. At the Heaven-Connecting Tower, a trial reveals his past life: he was an ancient Chaos cultivator who sacrificed himself to protect the mortal realm. The so-called "pseudo-spiritual root" is actually the key to balancing the spiritual energy of the two realms.

When the Western Desert's Demon Lord attacks the Heaven-Connecting Tower to seize the spiritual veins, and the cultivation world seeks to sacrifice the mortal realm to preserve itself, Zhao Guibin uses his Chaos Spirit Body to merge the spiritual veins of both realms. He leads everyone to forge a path of coexistence amid the Ninety-Nine Heavenly Tribulations. After overcoming the tribulation, he does not follow the usual path and ascend. Instead, he chooses to remain between the two realms and establish an academy to teach the art of balance.

From a village boy to the guardian of two realms, Zhao Guibin's quest for the Dao has nothing to do with ascending. It is all about protecting: protecting those he loves, protecting the meaning of every form of existence, and protecting the future in which the mortal realm and the cultivation world coexist. This is a legendary tale of breaking prejudice and seeking balance, as well as an immortal-heroic epic of growth and guardianship.
