After the sutra collection was completed, Tathagata discovered that although the Eastern Tu Tang Dynasty had obtained the true sutra, the implementation of the true sutra was hindered because "the person who preached the sutra did not understand the nature of the Eastern Tutu". Then Monk Tang was ordered to be the "King of Sutras", along with Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, and Monk Sha (who retained his magic power but needed to temper his sharp edges), to escort the "revised version of the localized Sutra" from the West back to Chang'an. On the way, he had to resolve the "Eighty-one Reverse Difficulties" - that is, the crisis caused by the cultural differences between the East and the West, the obstruction of the "Eastern transmission" by forces along the way, and the "sequelae of studying the Sutras" of the masters and disciples themselves.
