A bickering couple and mutual salvation
Ling Henian was once a young traveling doctor, but he fell victim to the ignorant villagers and was nailed to an altar of sacrifice. He could only watch as his flesh was torn apart inch by inch by the venom of a gu worm.
When he opened his eyes again, his soul had entered the body of a dead young woman. His body was covered in bruises, and crude insults rang in his ears: “You worthless money pit! We can sell you to Wang the Lame for 800 copper coins, enough for your brother to get married!”
A man’s soul trapped in a woman’s body made Ling Henian the most absurd existence in the world. Despite his lifelong medical expertise, people looked down on him because of his female body. But that also helped him understand how hard life was for women. So he punished wicked commoners and dared to defy the powerful.
Ling Henian and Lu Qingyan first met while bickering, then gradually came to understand each other’s souls. When Ling Henian learned that he had always been someone others were willing to abandon, he could only smile bitterly. “I don’t blame them. I was never the person who mattered most to them.”
Lu Qingyan moved close and replied firmly, “You’re the person who matters most to me.”
Ling Henian died because of a gu, was brought back to life by one, and was ultimately imprisoned by it. Lu Qingyan was known to the world as “the dashing Fourth Young Master,” but that was only a disguise for his hatred of court politics. For Ling Henian, however, he entered the political arena.
Behind it all lay one conspiracy after another. How will “Henian and Qingyan” carve out a path to survival for themselves and for the person dearest to their hearts?
