Sunshine and Breezes in Osaka

Amid Osaka’s fireworks and the sounds of kendo, childhood friends Kazuha Toyama and Heiji Hattori have long since etched each other’s names into the passing years. He is a hot-blooded, impulsive detective from Kansai, always shielding her when they investigate a case. She is a bright, resilient aikido girl who teases him for being an “idiot” and still grips his hand when danger strikes.

From an unexpected moment of closeness at the cherry blossom festival to the mystery of a locked room at a hot spring inn; from clinging to each other for their lives aboard a cruise ship to a long-overdue confession in a rain-soaked cave, every case foreshadows a fluttering heart, and every deduction conceals a clumsy act of protection. He climbed rooftops to find her good-luck charm, and she kept vigil at his hospital bed, crying until her eyes were red. He struggled to speak beneath the sunset at Koshien, while she clutched the ring he passed her amid the ruins of an earthquake.

As life-and-death trials warm their ambiguous feelings, “partners” become “lovers.” With the straightforward warmth of Kansai people, they grow together as they investigate cases and navigate everyday life. From school uniforms to wedding dresses, from solving cases side by side to building a home together, even Conan can’t help teasing, “Heiji finally figured it out.” Kazuha has long understood: his deductions conceal his special affection for her, and his bravado wraps itself around a tender heart.

This is a confession written on the pages of cases and in the ink of sincerity. From their first meeting beneath falling cherry blossoms to the evening their child calls them “Mommy and Daddy,” they prove with the passage of time that the best kind of love means solving mysteries together and turning the everyday chores of life into something warm and wonderful.
