When other people are reborn, they get to be the star of the show. Me? I got bound to a “trinket System,” had my consciousness split into three, and became a piece of junk carried around by the protagonists of three different worlds. This System is incredibly laid-back: no missions, no rewards, just slowly building up its trinket count. Its only “perk” is that I can hear the protagonists’ thoughts and pick up some of the extraordinary knowledge they encounter, provided my poor consciousness doesn’t get overwhelmed by all that information.
In the Mysterious World, I’m a copper penny carried by Zhou Mingrui. Every day, I hear his inner monologue: “Touching this Beyonder characteristic would lower my sanity, right? Everyone in the Tarot Club is hiding something…” One time, he flipped through a mysterious notebook, and I caught a few words about “Sefirah Castle” and the “Paths of the Gods.” The torrent of information left me dazed, and he unconsciously squeezed me out of shape. All I could think was: Hey, take it easy!
In The Naming of the Night, I’m a red cord around Qing Chen’s wrist. This guy has more going on in his head while running through ruins than he does in his actions: “Could using time reversal get me stuck in a bug? If the pursuers get any closer, I’ll have to vanish on the spot…” Every time he uses his ability, I get shaken like a noodle being electrocuted. I also have to put up with the stench of sweat soaking into me, and all I can think is: Kid, could you take a bath first?
Over in Battle Through the Heavens, I’m Xiao Yan’s beast-tooth pendant. Every day, I hear him yelling “Never bully a young man just because he’s poor” at thin air. His chuunibyou spirit is about to give me tinnitus. Once, while he was practicing the “Flame Mantra,” his Dou Qi surged so violently I nearly fell apart. I even had to memorize those Heavenly Flame recipes. I rolled my eyes: We get it, you’re amazing. Could you stop shaking me so hard?
