The thing Lin Xiaolu regrets most in her life is sneaking into an abandoned art studio late at night and catching student council president Gu Yubai revealing his violent side.
His icy hand closes around her throat, and the threat of death hangs over her: “Say a word, and I’ll kill you.”
The next day, the whole school is in an uproar. The icy top student Gu Yubai puts strawberry milk on her desk and says expressionlessly, “Girlfriend, breakfast.”
Forced to sign a “fake dating” agreement, Lin Xiaolu is on edge. By day, she is his “girlfriend-on-call”; by night, she is a “human surveillance camera” in the corner of the art studio.
She discovers that he remembers all her favorite strawberry desserts, drinks the juice she has already sipped, and “kills” anyone who gives her a hard time with a look.
He sees how tenderly she draws him, how her eyes light up when she eats strawberry cake, and how she shines when she quietly argues for her artistic opinions.
When the campus belle publicly exposes her identity as an online artist, vicious insults and attacks flood the internet: “She draws porn! She fantasizes about Gu Yubai!”
Lin Xiaolu’s world crumbles.
Gu Yubai, who has been missing for days, returns with a vengeance. The giant campus screen lights up, showing his phone wallpaper: the warm, beautiful artwork she drew!
The art studio walls swing open, revealing every one of her comic drafts pasted up inside!
His icy voice rings through the assembly hall: “See you in court, liars.”
“Lin Xiaolu, ‘Forest Deer,’ is the only light in my darkness.”
“And I’m her number-one superfan.”
It turns out that the person who nearly strangled her has been secretly collecting every bit of light she creates all along.
