The upright coffin at the bottom of the Yellow River opened its eyes.
Chen Jiu had spent half his life fishing corpses out of the river, but he had never seen anything like this: dozens of coffins stood embedded in the riverbed, their bronze rings etched with patterns like countless writhing eyes. The flute music seeping through the coffin seams made the bones in your body itch.
His father had vanished in these waters twenty years ago, leaving behind only a bronze token engraved with the words “Mysterious Water Bone Mirror.” Now, the half a human bone he had found inside a shattered coffin fit the inscription on the token perfectly.
Even stranger, the red cord tied around the bone was still moving.
Only when the first upright coffin split open and a deathly pale hand reached out of the river mud did Chen Jiu understand: the flute music drifting through the night was not a lament. It was a summons. His father had never been searching for treasure. He had been searching for something capable of holding back the entire Yellow River.
The day the three bones are brought together, the river's currents will reverse, the dead priests will open their eyes, and the words hidden on the back of the token will reveal a truth that has been soaked in river water for three thousand years:
The so-called Bone Mirror has never reflected water.
It reflects the demons in people's hearts.
