Modern musician Wei Zhao is unexpectedly caught in a rift in space and time. His soul enters a cultivation world with a setting similar to The Untamed, where he becomes Wei Wuxian, the man the cultivation clans regard as a “demon,” and goes by the alias A-Xian. Lan Zhan, a renowned cultivator who goes by the alias Lan Su, has lived alone with his memories ever since A-Xian's “death,” holding on to the bond they shared in their youth. Amid the dislocation of time and space, Wei Zhao is reborn with his modern memories and fragments of A-Xian's soul, and reunites with Lan Su. Together, they must unravel the conspiracy behind the rift in space and time, as the cultivation clans seek to use it to resurrect an ancient demon. Torn between protecting all living beings and rekindling their old love, they ultimately play Chenqing and the Wangji guqin together to reopen the rift and rewrite their tragic fate.
