Lin Xiu, deputy captain of the criminal investigation squad, has an extraordinarily high case clearance rate, but an even higher rate of complaints about his sharp tongue.
His partner, Su Mingjing, is a chief forensic pathologist who returned from abroad. Her expertise is incisive, but she suffers from severe face blindness.
At three in the morning, a corpse appeared at the police station entrance. Surveillance footage showed it had walked there by itself.
Crouching beside the body, Lin Xiu quipped, "Buddy, if you're going to be reincarnated, at least pick an auspicious day. I just put beef tripe in the hot pot!"
Su Mingjing, wearing white gloves, turned the body over. "Time of death was two hours before your hot pot started boiling."
During the autopsy, they found a bloodstained wedding ring hidden in the victim's stomach.
And the bride, whose wedding was supposed to take place three days later, was found hanging from her crystal chandelier in a burial robe.
